WOMEN'S TENNIS COMPETES AT 2009 ITA NCAA DIVISION NEW ENGLAND REGION CHAMPIONSHIPS

CAMBRIDGE, MA - The University of Massachusetts Boston women's tennis team competed in singles and doubles play today at the 2009 ITA NCAA Division III Women's New England Region Championships in Cambridge, MA on the campus of host Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
UMass Boston freshman Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, MA) was defeated by Bowdoin College's Emily Lombard, who was a 9-16 seed, 6-0, 6-0 in the singles draw of 64, while Beacons senior Emily Johnson (Saugus, MA) was beaten by Katie Helfgott of Bates College, 6-4, 6-0. Kloczewiak was beaten in the consolation round, 6-0, 6-2, by Leah Kepping of Middlebury College to finish her singles action. Johnson also competed in the consolation round, but fell to Joy Backer of Vassar College, 6-0, 6-0.
Kloczewiak also teamed up with UMass Boston junior Carolina Gonzalez (Bridgewater, MA) for doubles play, but the duo was taken down by the pair of Jes Huang and Rebecca Stone of Babson College, 8-2, in the draw of 32. Kloczewiak and Gonzalez competed in the consolation round as well, but came up short against Anuja Ankola and Jennifer Ouyang of Amherst College, 8-1.
The Beacons will be in action again when they host Little East Conference foe Western Connecticut State University in a make-up match on Saturday, September 19 at 1:00 p.m. in a match that will be played on the campus of Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA.
