BOSTON, MA - The University of Massachusetts Boston women's tennis team was defeated by visiting Plymouth State University, 8-1, in a Little East Conference match today played at Boston College High School. The Beacons fall to 5-5 overall, including 0-3 in LEC play, while the Panthers improve to 4-3 and 3-2.
Plymouth State took two out of the three doubles matches with the UMass Boston number one tandem of sophomore Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, MA) and freshman Destanee Ringler (Scituate, MA) taking down Plymouth State's duo of sophomore Sara Burke (Barrington, RI) and freshman Molly Heartfield (Dorset, VT) by a tally of 8-2. The Beacons suffered losses in all six singles matches, but saw Kloczewiak give Burke everything she could handle at number one singles in a 6-4, 7-5 defeat and Ringler hanging tough before bowing to the Panthers' junior Laura Donovan (Acton, MA), 6-1, 7-5. UMass Boston freshman McKenna Hughes (Yarmouthport, MA) led 5-4 in the first set with Plymouth State junior Lydia Smith (Marblehead, MA), before slipping 7-5 and was defeated in the second set, 6-3.
