BOSTON, MA - The University of Massachusetts Boston women's tennis team was defeated by visiting Rhode Island College, 7-2, today in a Little East Conference match played at Boston College High School. The Beacons fall to 2-6 on the season and 0-5 in LEC play, while the Anchorwomen improve to 7-5 and 2-3.
UMass Boston scored in doubles play when the first doubles tandem of junior Carolina Gonzalez (Bridgewater, MA) and freshman Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, MA) won a 9-7 decision over senior Julie Bannon (Narragansett, RI) and sophomore Gabriela Batek (Greenville, RI) to improve Gonzalez' dual match doubles record to 7-1, while Kloczewiak is now 6-2 in dual match doubles action. Senior Emily Johnson (Saugus, MA) gained the Beacons' second point with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at number two singles over junior Jaclyn Eastman (Mansfield, MA). The victory gives Johnson 41 combined singles/doubles wins to move into a tie for second on the UMass Boston career list with Denise B. Ridge (2002-03, 2006).
The Beacons will be in action again when they host Salem State College in a Little East Conference match on Saturday, October 10 at 1:00 p.m. at the Boston College High School courts, while Rhode Island College hosts Plymouth State University on October 10 at 12:00 p.m.
