BOSTON, MA - The University of Massachusetts Boston women's tennis team was defeated by visiting Suffolk University, 5-4, today in a match played at Boston College High School. The Beacons fall to 2-8 on the season, while the Rams improve to 7-4.
UMass Boston junior Carolina Gonzalez (Bridgewater, MA) dropped just one game in beating sophomore Brianna Koch (Brasilia, Brazil) at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-0 for her fourth singles win of the year and senior Jillian Hurd (Taunton, MA) cruised at fifth singles over freshman Sunny Rosenthal (Winthrop, MA), 6-1, 6-2. The Beacons gained points at number three doubles and sixth singles as well, due to forfeits.
The Beacons will be in action again when they host Little East Conference rival University of Southern Maine on Saturday, October 17 at 3:00 p.m. at the Boston College High School courts, while Suffolk hosts Mount Ida College on October 19 at 6:15 p.m. at Buckingham, Browne and Nichols School.
