BOSTON, MA - The University of Massachusetts Boston women's tennis fell to Suffolk University, 7-2, Wednesday night at the Buckingham, Browne & Nichols courts in Cambridge, MA. The win improves the Rams record to 11-4 on the year while the loss drops the Beacons to 7-7 overall.
The Beacons picked up singles victories out of the number four slot from freshman MaKenna Hughes (Yarmouthport, MA) and from freshman Samantha Counts (Bridgewater, MA) in number five singles play. Hughes defeated Georgia Ward 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) by saving a set point in the second set tiebreaker to earn the match point. Counts was able to defeat Melissa Chermely 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4) in a gritty three set match.
The Beacons will be back in action when they travel to Newbury College on October 14, 2010 for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference match while the Rams are idle until the pairings for the GNAC conference tournament are released.
