WOMEN'S TENNIS SET TO OPEN 2010 SEASON IN VERMONT

BOSTON, MA - The 2010 UMass Boston Women's Tennis team will open the fall season with matches this Friday and Saturday in the Green Mountain State. The Beacons begin the season with a match vs. Johnson State this Friday, September 3 at 3:00 P.M. and will head to Castleton State on Saturday, September 4 for a 1:00 P.M. tilt.

The squad returns two Little East Conference First Team members in senior Carolina Gonzalez (Bridgewater, MA) and sophomore Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, MA). The two were named to the LEC First Team at number one doubles and compiled a 6-5 overall mark at number one doubles for the season, including 6-3 in dual match play. The tandem was the team to beat in Little East Conference play with a 5-2 record, including wins in four of their first five conference matches.

The Beacons also welcome three key additions to the roster in freshman Destanee Ringler (Scituate, MA), freshman MaKenna Hughes (Yarmouthport, MA) and freshman Samantha Counts (Bridgewater, MA) and will look to return to the Little East Conference playoff picture with a record at or above the .500 mark.

UMass Boston finished the 2009 season with a 2-9 overall record, including 0-7 in LEC play.
