BOSTON, Mass. – As the saying goes “Good things come to those who wait,” and that was definitely the case Tuesday afternoon as women’s tennis (3-4, 2-1 LEC) earned their first Little East Conference victory over Western Connecticut State University (0-4, 0-3 LEC) since 2001, with an 8-1 decision on the Boston College High School Tennis Courts.
In doubles play it was the duo of MaKenna Arrigo (Yarmouth Port, MA) and Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, MA) that got the afternoon off to a great start as they recorded their fifth win of the year with a 8-2 final over Stefani Signorello and Maxx Zimmer.
Hieu Nguyen (Dorchester, MA) and Wendy Steinman (Dudley, MA) followed suit with their 8-1 victory to earn their first win at second doubles. Both Nguyen and Steinman walked away with wins in singles play as Nguyen earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at fifth flight, while Steinman was a 6-1, 6-0 victor at fourth flight.
Kloczewiak improved to 4-3 on the year at first flight, with her 6-1, 6-2 win over Maxx Zimmer. Samantha Counts (Bridgewater, MA) played an extremely tough match at second flight. Against Signorello, the two battled back and forth and forced a tie-breaker. Signorello managed to get by Counts with her 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) decision. Taraneh Farhangmehr (Newton, MA) was also a winner in singles, which helped the Beacons seal their conference win.
