NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston women's tennis player Carolina Gonzalez (Bridgewater, MA) has been named Little East Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her performance during the week of October 6-12, it was announced today by the conference.

Gonzalez was a perfect 6-0 on the week, including 3-0 at number two singles and 3-0 at first doubles. The sophomore did not lose a set in singles play all week and lost no more than four games in any set. She began the week with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Jessica Jeffery of Regis College (MA) on October 6 and combined with doubles partner Emily Johnson (Saugus, MA) to take down Jeffery and Ally Kuchera of Regis, 8-2, in doubles action. A product of Bridgewater-Raynham High School, Gonzalez defeated Buffy Garland of Little East Conference foe Plymouth State University, 6-4, 6-1 on October 9 and teamed with Johnson to beat Meghan Rodier and Lydia Smither of PSU for a 9-8 (7-2) win. The first-year player for UMB capped the week with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over LEC foe University of Southern Maine's Amanda Coleman and combined with Johnson for an easy 8-1 win over Erica Robertson and Melissa Ford of Southern Maine on October 11.

Gonzalez has now won five straight singles matches and four in doubles play for a combined streak of nine straight matches to improve to a combined 13-10 on the season. She has posted a 7-5 singles mark, including 6-2 at number two singles in dual match play, while owning a 6-5 doubles mark, including 6-4 at number one in dual match action.

UMass Boston will be in action again on Tuesday, October 14 when it travels to Providence, RI to take on Rhode Island College at 3:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the Little East Conference team championship.
