Track and Field Shines at Little East/NE Alliance Championship Meet
GORHAM, Me. – With multiple top marks men's track and field earned one of their best finishes ever at the Little East Conference championship meet as they placed 3rd overall, while the women's team posted a sixth place finish.
"I am very proud of how both teams handled themselves today. They really put their hearts into it. We are looking forward to the outdoor season," said head coach Consandria Walker.
Leading the way for the men's squad was Tylor Hart (Newton, Mass.), Kirby Cole (Shrewsbury, Mass.), and Kebba Nasso (Attleboro, Mass.). Each one of them recorded a first place finish in Saturday's championship meet. Hart recorded the top mark in the high jump with a height of 6-06.25 feet.
Cole leaped his way to a gold medal in the pole vault with his final height of 12-02.75 feet. Nasso capped off the first place finishes as he sprinted his way to a gold medal in the 400 meter dash with a time 49.83 seconds.
On the women's side Samara Faustin (Boston, Mass.) recorded the top mark for UMass Boston as she placed second in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.49 seconds, which was a new season best for her. Faustin also placed fourth in the 200 meter dash with a final time of 26.99 seconds.
Also competing in the 200 was Ari Leao (New Bedford, Mass.) who finished in fifth place with a time of 27.69 seconds. Leao also posted a fifth place finish in the 400 meter dash with her time of 1:02.09. In the women's 4x200 meter relay Faustin, Leao, Fatima Konteh (Lewis Center, Ohio), and Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, Mass.) recorded a combined time of 1:53.60 to finish in fourth place.
In the men's meet Ervin Lofton (Ann Arbor, Mich.) posted a third place finish in the high jump with a height of 6-04.00 feet. Henry Morales (Chelsea, Mass.) took fourth place in the long jump with a final mark of 21-05.25 feet. Nasso also took third in the triple jump with a distance of 44-07.00, while Hamza Abdul (Chelsea, Mass.) placed sixth with a distance of 42-02.25 feet.
Morales then finished in sixth place in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.75 seconds and third in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.29 seconds. Before his first place finish in the 400, Nasso posted a second place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.64 seconds.
As the lone competitor in the 600 meter run Jake Kerin (Quincy, Mass.) recorded a time of 1:26.29 to earn a fifth place finish. Xhulio Uruci (Newton, Mass.) competed in both the 1,000 meter run and the one mile run. In the 1,000 Uruci finished in sixth place with a time of 2:39.91, while in the mile run he posted a time of 4:29.93 to finish in fifth place.
In the 4x400 meter relay the Abdul, Morales, Kerin, and Nasso finished in third place after recording a combined time of 3:33.48. After that the 4x800 relay team of Uruci, Brandon Couloute (Shelton, Mass.), Chhenlee Ly (Leominster, Mass.), and Jeff Laurore recorded a time of 9:18.84 to finish in sixth place.
Track and Field will now compete in the NCAA New England Regional meet next weekend at Springfield College.
