Track and Field Competes at New England Championships

EASTON, Mass. – Highlighted by a new record setting time in the men's 4x100 meter relay track and field had another strong weekend as the Beacons competed at the 2013 NEICAAA New England Championship hosted by Stonehill College.

In the men's 4x100 relay the team of Jabari Coy-Gooding (Boston, Mass.), Henry Morales (Chelsea, Mass.), Nobert Simon (Chelsea, Mass.), and Fritz Gustave (Fall River, Mass.) set a new program best with their combined time of 43.29 seconds.  Their new time broke the original record for 24-hundredths of a second.

Gustave also competed in the men's 100 meter dash in which finished in 19th place overall with a time of 11.23 seconds.  Freshman Hulerie McGuffie (Lynn, Mass.) qualified for her first New England championship final in the 400 meter dash with her preliminary time of 55.50 seconds, which was the fifth fastest qualifying time.  She would then place eighth in the finals with a time of 1:00.42.  Her preliminary time also marked a new personal best for the standout rookie sprinter.

Senior Samara Faustin (Boston, Mass.) earned a 14th place finish in the prelims of the women's 100 meter dash with her time of 12.36 seconds.  In the women's 4x100 meter relay, Faustin, McGuffie, Anisha Trappier (Taunton, Mass.), and Renee O'Brien (Stoneham, Mass.) earned a seventh place finish with their time of 47.77 seconds.

In the field events, Julian Hubbard (Windsor, Maine) recorded a jump of 44-07.50 feet to earn 12th place in the triple jump.  Hamza Abdul (Chelsea, Mass.) earned 16th place in the event with his leap of 43-07.75 feet.

The track and field team returns to action on Thursday and Friday when they compete in the ECAC Division III championship meet hosted by Springfield College.
