Women’s Track and Field Shine at Day 1 of Boston University Terrier Classic


BOSTON, Mass. - Led by sophomore Hulerie McGuffie's (Lynn, Mass.) program record in the 200 meter dash the women's indoor track and field had a standout day at the Boston University Terrier Classic.

McGuffie took over the all-time spot in the 200 meter dash with her time of 25.34 seconds, which was the fastest amongst all Division III competitors in the event.  She currently sits second in the country behind Denison's Tiffany Davis by a mere four-hundredths of a second.  The Terrier Classic consists of athletes and teams from all NCAA divisions as well as a variety of local club teams.

The Lynn native also posted a 36th place finish in the long jump with her leap of 15-04.00 feet and was a member of the 4x400 relay team that finished in 34th place with a combined time of 4:12.44. 

In total there was nine personal bests recorded at Friday's meet.  Anisha Trappier (Taunton, Mass.) posted her best time in the 60 meter hurdles as she finished in the prelims in 45h place with a time of 8.35 seconds.

Angelica Pizzi (Milton, Mass.) crossed the finish line in the one mile run with an impressive time of 5:29.69 to earn 86th place overall. 

After McGuffie's record breaking time in the 200, senior Renee O'Brien (Stoneham, Mass.) recorded the second fastest time for the Beacons with a mark of 26.21 seconds, which was also a personal best.  Trappier finished behind her with a time of 27.31 seconds to earn 114th place.  Taylor Smith (Burlington, Mass.), Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, Mass.), and Ashley Cahill (Spencer, Mass.) each recorded new personal bests in the 200 with their times of 28.85, 30.44, and 38.09 respectively.

In the 500 meter dash senior Ari Leao (New Bedford, Mass.) took 52nd place with her time of 1:25.89.  Danny Valeri (Leominster, Mass.) earned her best time in the event as she crossed the finish line with a time of 1:36.08. 

In the field events Smith recorded a 21st place finish in the shot put with her toss of 27-01.75 feet.  O'Brien broke into the top-10 with her leap of 5-05.00 feet in the high jump.  Kloczewiak recorded a distance and a new personal best in the weight throw with a toss of 37-05.25 feet. 

Track and Field returns to action tomorrow when the men's team takes part in the BU Terrier Classic.
