McGuffie Breaks 200 Meter Dash Record at BU Valentine Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. - It was another standout performance for sophomore sprinter Hulerie McGuffie (Lynn, Mass.) as she once again reset the record books at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational breaking her own record in the 200 meter dash Friday afternoon.

The All-American sprinter continues to remain one of the top competitors in the country with her new best time of 25.24 seconds, which earned her a 24th place finish in the event.  She now sits third in the country in the event behind a sprinter from Wartburg College and the University of Wisconsin La Crosse.  McGuffie would also place in the top-30 in the long jump with a leap of 16-07.75 feet.

Also in action at Friday's meet was Anisha Trappier (Taunton, Mass.) who competed in both the 60 and 200 meter dashes.  In the 60 Trappier posted a time of 8.22 seconds in the prelims, while in the 200 she finished with a time of 26.40 seconds.  Making her collegiate track and field appearance in the 60 meter dash on Friday was All-American women's soccer player Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, Mass.).  The junior sprinter posted a time of 8.18 seconds to earn 55th place in the event.

Ashley Cahill (Spencer, Mass.) was the third Beacon to compete in the 200 as she finished with a time of 36.96 seconds (personal best).  In the 400 meter dash Ari Leao (New Bedford, Mass.) crossed the finish line with a time of 1:03.24, while Danny Valeri (Leominster, Mass.) finished with a time of 1:10.67, which was a new personal best for the sprinter. 

In the one mile run Angelica Pizzi (Milton, Mass.) recorded a final time of 5:24.93 as the Beacons lone distance runner at Friday's meet.  Her time was a new personal best as she shaved almost five seconds off her original mark.

In the shot put Taylor Smith (Burlington, Mass.) finished in 25th place following her throw of 36-10.25 feet (personal best).  Nicole Aube (Westfield, Mass.) recorded a toss of 25-04.00 feet to finish in 45th place overall.  Senior Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, Mass.) finished the weight throw with an impressive throw of 30-09.00 feet to earn a top-50 finish.

Track and Field return to action tomorrow when they men's team competes in the David Hermery Valentine Invitational.
