Women’s Track and Field Compete at New England DIII Championship

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Led by sophomore Hulerie McGuffie's (Lynn, Mass.) fifth place finish in the 60 meter dash the women's track and field team posted a 20th place finish at the 2014 NCAA Division III New England Championship meet hosted by Springfield College Saturday afternoon.

The Lynn native recorded a final time of 7.91 seconds, which stands as the second fastest time in program history in the event.  McGuffie broke the program record last week at the Little East Conference/New England Alliance championship meet.  Due to the size of the track they were only able to compete in the 55 meter dash, but when her time was converted it set a new program best of 7.89 seconds.

Her time of 7.91 earned her fifth overall as she was the only sprinter from the Little East Conference to qualify for the finals.

Also competing in the 60 meter dash was sophomore Anisha Trappier (Taunton, Mass.) and senior Renee O'Brien (Stoneham, Mass.) as the two finished tied for 27th place with their times of 8.13 seconds respectively.  Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, Mass.) 8.14 seconds in only her second meet with the program.

In the 4x200 meter relay Trappier, O'Brien, Ledin and McGuffie recorded a combined time of 1:46.26 to finish in fourth place overall.  In the 4x400 Ari Leao (New Bedford, Mass.), Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, Mass.), Danny Valeri (Leominster, Mass.), and Angelica Pizzi (Milton, Mass.) posted a time of 4:40.30 to finish in 21st place overall.

Track and Field returns to action next Friday and Saturday when they compete in the NEICAAA Championship which will be hosted by Boston University.
