4x100 Relay Advances to Championship Saturday at NCAA’s
DELAWARE, Ohio – On the first day of the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field championship the 4x100 meter relay team qualified for championship Saturday with their fastest time of the 2014 season Thursday afternoon at Selby Stadium on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University.
The team of Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, Mass.), Hulerie McGuffie (Lynn, Mass.), Renee O'Brien (Stoneham, Mass.), and Anisha Trappier (Taunton, Mass.) recorded a combined time of 47.15 seconds, which was the seventh fastest time in the preliminary round. The Beacons will compete for a national championship on Saturday at 1:40 p.m.
Also qualifying for the finals was the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (46.01), Mount Union (46.81), Wartburg College (46.84), Emory University (47.00), Wheaton College (Mass.) (47.02), University of St. Thomas (Minn.) (47.07), and MIT (47.44).
McGuffie was also in action in the 200 meter dash prelims and finished in 11th place with the second fastest of her career. The Lynn native posted a time of 24.68 seconds, falling just short of qualifying for the finals by a mere .12 seconds.
Tomorrow it will be the high jumpers Carl Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) and O'Brien in action. O'Brien will compete at 2 p.m., with Joseph set to compete at 5:30 p.m. McGuffie will take to the track in the 400 meter dash prelims at 7 p.m.
