Women’s Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season At Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The women's track and field team began their 2019 outdoor season Saturday afternoon at the Bridgewater State University Invite, where they finished in 11th place out of 17 teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Brianna Steele was the lone Beacon to compete in the 400-meter dash as she posted a final time of 1:09.48.  In the 100-meter hurdles, Katie Olson and Alanna Olton posted times of 17.80 and 19.12 seconds to finish in seventh and 14th place respectively.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Krystal Alvarez, Nana Anane, Gesheca Boswell, and Ruth Labranche posted a combined time of 56.19 seconds to finish in fourth place.  Lauren Olton finished tied for sixth in the high jump with a final height of 4-07.00 feet. 

Annie Appolon recorded the best overall finish of any UMass Boston competitor as she finished in second place in the long jump.  She posted a leap of 16-04.25 feet to earn the Beacons eight points in the event.

Paulina Vo, Labranche, and Alvarez also competed in the long jump and finished in 11th (14-06.00 ft), 12th (14-05.75 ft), and 14th (14-05.25 ft) place respectively.

The Beacons will compete at the Tufts University Invite next Saturday in Medford.
