NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – For the first time this season senior libero Kayla Wilson (San Jose, Calif.) and freshman setter Emma Rocha (Boynton Beach, Fla.) were named Little East Conference Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week respectively as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
The honors also mark the first of the career for both Wilson and Rocha. The Beacons as a whole are currently riding a five-match win-streak which includes three wins over conference opponents.
For Wilson, she averaged 14 digs per game last week for the Beacons. The senior captain posted a week-high 23 digs in the 3-1 win over regionally ranked Trinity College (Conn.) on Tuesday. She also helped to anchor the Beacons defense which held the Bantams to a mere .118 hitting percentage. Wilson continued her strong play in Thursday and Saturday's conference wins over Southern Maine and Rhode Island College. Combined she posted 19 digs and never allowed either team to record a positive hitting percentage.
Rocha's week was highlighted by a 26 assist showing in the win over Rhode Island College. She also managed two aces and three digs in the win over the Anchorwomen as well. In total the Florida native tallied 50 assists on the week, with 12 of those coming against regionally ranked Trinity College.
