PROVIDENCE, R.I. – With a total team effort volleyball (7-7, 2-0 Little East) notched their second straight conference win of the year as they defeated Rhode Island College (0-16, 0-2 Little East) by the final of 3-0 Thursday evening at The Murray Center.
Combined the Beacons hit a season-high .280 in the 3-0 victory, their 11th straight over the Anchorwomen. In the first game, UMB defeated RIC 25-9. They then notched a 25-18 win in game two before closing out the match with a 25-12 victory in the third behind a match-high .364 hitting percentage.
Freshman hitter Julia Murphy (Canton, Mass.) led the Beacons and the match with 12 kills on 19 attempts for a .526 hitting percentage. Classmate Patsy Boland (Chicago, Ill.) finished second on the team with five kills, while senior Corrine Porter (Huntington Beach, Calif.) threw down four kills.
Setter Emma Rocha (Boynton Beach, Fla.) fueled the Beacons offense with 17 assists, while also scoring two aces as well. Pepper Baker (Tallahassee, Fla.) tallied a career-best four aces of her own as well to go along with a pair of kills. As a team the Beacons posted a season-high 14 aces to remain atop the conference standings.
Defensively, Christine DuPuis (Minden, Nev.) put-up eight digs to lead the team. At the net Murphy recorded UMB's only solo block, with Molly Witzmann (Encinitas, Calif.) tallying a pair of block assists.
The Beacons return to action this Saturday when they face Connecticut College and Tufts University at 3 and 5 p.m. at Tufts University.
