BOSTON, MA - Junior outside hitter Kate McWhorter (Bakersfield, CA) posted a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs, while hitting .435 for the match and freshman setter Cassy Hanneman (Denver, CO) registered 33 assists to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston volleyball team over visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology tonight, 25-15, 25-15, 25-14, at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Boston. The Beacons improve to 7-4, while the Leopards fall to 0-6.
McWhorter also served up two aces and got up for a block and Hanneman put down two kills in three attempts to go with an ace and four digs. Junior outside hitter Kate White (Plymouth, MA) spiked for eight kills and added an ace and a block, while freshman middle hitter Molly Rattigan (Dorchester, MA) fired a season-high three aces in addition to smashing six kills, coming up with three digs and making three blocks. Junior libero Megan MacAuley (Upland, CA) was solid on the defensive end with eight digs and scored with a pair of aces.
Junior outside hitter Danielle Banks (Ellicott City, MD) led Wentworth with six kills and hit a blistering .857 on the attack to go with six digs, while sophomore outside hitter Sam Vinciguerra (Somersworth, NH) spiked for three kills, maintained a .500 hitting mark and scooped up three digs. Junior setter Courtney Zink (East Falmouth, MA) directed the offense with eight assists and added a kill, an ace and a dig.
UMass Boston will be in action again when they travel to Cambridge, MA for a tri-match on the campus of MIT on Saturday, September 20 with Smith College at 1:30 p.m. and host MIT at 4:00 p.m., while Wentworth travels to Brookline, MA for a tri-match with Framingham State College and Newbury College starting at 12:30 p.m.
