BOSTON, MA - Sophomore right side hitter Nina Sullivan (Cheshire, CT) smashed a match-high 10 kills and hit a blistering .667 for the match to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston volleyball team over visiting College of Saint Elizabeth this afternoon, 25-7, 25-6, 25-9, at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Boston. The Beacons run their winning streak to six straight and have won eight of their last nine contests to improve to 15-7 on the season, while the Eagles fall to 8-10.
Sullivan did not commit an attack error for the match and added an ace and a pair of digs for UMass Boston, while junior outside hitter Kate McWhorter (Bakersfield, CA) swung for eight kills and committed just one error for a .583 hitting mark to go with six digs, two aces and three assists. Junior outside hitter Kate White (Plymouth, MA) saw action in just two sets, but still put down eight kills and hit .500 for the match, while picking up a dig. Freshman setter Cassy Hanneman (Denver, CO) directed the offense for 22 assists to go with two aces, three digs and a block. Junior libero Megan MacAuley (Upland, CA) scooped up six digs and senior defensive specialist Alessandra Adamo (Glastonbury, CT) fired a match-high three aces.
Junior middle hitter Irena Moore (Orange, NJ) and junior Isabel Machuca (Union City, NJ) each registered a kill to lead Saint Elizabeth. Freshman outside hitter Nashley Crespo (Newark, NJ) and sophomore libero Carmela Selitto (Parsippany, NJ) each anchored the defense with a match-high seven digs apiece.
The Beacons will be in action again when they travel to Framingham, MA on Tuesday, October 14 to take on Framingham State College at 6:00 p.m., while the Eagles host SUNY Maritime on October 13 at 7:30 p.m.
