NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston women's volleyball player Corrine Porter (Ladera Ranch, CA) has been named the Little East Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week for her play during the week of August 30 to September 5, it was announced today by the conference. The award marks the 13th time in the last three seasons that a UMB volleyball player has earned the honor.

Porter averaged 2.14 kills and hit .208 in 14 sets over the first four matches of her collegiate career and added 0.43 aces, 2.36 digs and 0.36 blocks per set. The freshman smashed a season-high 13 kills and hit .306 in her college debut vs. Hardin-Simmons University on September 3 to go with 15 digs and four total blocks to help the Beacons to a 3-2 win in the first round of the River City Classic in San Antonio, TX. The outside hitter fired a personal-best three aces and added three kills, six digs and a block solo in UMass Boston's 3-0 win over Whitworth University on the same day. A graduate of Tesoro High School, Porter put away nine kills on a .273 hitting mark in addition to five digs and an ace in the Beacons' 3-0 upset victory over nationally-ranked number 12 Trinity University (TX) on September 4 and came back to contribute with five kills, seven digs and two aces in UMass Boston's 3-0 win vs. McMurry University to complete the Beacons' four-match run to earn the tournament title and give them the best start in school history.

The Beacons, who just missed cracking the top 25 in the latest AVCA National Poll with a program-record 29 votes, will be in action again on Wednesday, September 8 when they host Emerson College at 6:00 p.m. in their home opener at the Clark Athletic Center.
