Sept. 9, 2011
BEVERLY, Mass. – The 22nd ranked University of Massachusetts Boston volleyball team ended their two-game skid, by picking up a pair of wins on the first day of the Endicott College Invitational. The Beacons defeated Bowdoin College (ME) by the final score of 3-1 and Schreiner University (TX) by the final score of 3-0 Friday evening at Post Center.
With their wins, the Beacons improve their record to 2-2 on the year, while Bowdoin fell to 1-1 and Schreiner 1-6. Both matches were extremely close and well played by all three squads. In the opener, the Beacons came out firing edging the Polar Bears 25-23 in the first set. They then cruised to a 25-18 win in the second set.

The nightcap favored UMass Boston more than the opener. In the first set, UMass earned a 25-16 win, while in the second set the Beacons had to mount a late comeback to seize a 25-23 win. The third and final set saw the Beacons hold off a late rally by Schreiner to take the 25-20 win.

Kirsten Morrison (North Reading, MA) combined for 10 kills on 20 attempts (.400 attack percentage). Hanneman and Frana Burtness-Adams (Fairbanks, AK) combined for 35 assists respectively.
