Volleyball Climbs Three Spots on National Coaches Poll

LEXINGTON, Kentucky – Following their 4-0 weekend at the Endicott Invitational, the University of Massachusetts Boston volleyball team climbed three spots and are currently ranked 19th on the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll.

The Beacons, who are currently sitting with a 4-2 record overall received a total of 145 points on this week’s poll.  This week’s ranking marks the second time this season that UMass volleyball has been ranked in the top-20.

At the Endicott Invitational, the Beacons recorded two 3-0 victories over Schreiner University (TX) and Middlebury College.  They also picked up two 3-1 wins over Salve Regina University and Bowdoin College.

For her efforts during last week’s tournament sophomore Corrine Porter (Huntington Beach, CA) was named an All-Tournament selection.  Porter was dominant in the Beacons final match of the weekend scoring a total of 15 kills without surrendering a single error.  She also managed a team-high 16 digs as well.

Freshman Kirsten Morrison (North Reading, MA) also received recognition for her standout play, as she was named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week.  The middle hitter played in every single set UMass and currently ranks fourth on the team with 40 kills.

The Beacons return to action on Saturday when they travel to Eastern Connecticut State University for a 1 p.m. Little East Conference match.
