No. 18 Volleyball Cruises Past Johnson and Wales

BOSTON, Mass. – With a combined 42 kills and .345 attack percentage the 18th ranked University of Massachusetts Boston volleyball team cruised to their seventh straight win as they defeated Johnson and Wales University (RI) by the final score of 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-15) Thursday evening in the Clark Athletic Center.
Senior Molly Rattigan (Dorchester, MA) led the Beacons with match-high 11 kills, while freshman Kirsten Morrison (North Reading, MA) added eight kills of her own. Shannon Thompson (Moorpark, CA) and Corrine Porter (Huntington Beach, CA) each had seven kills in the win. Amber Clemons (Simi Valley, CA) added three kills of her own, and Brooke Nemethy (Ovieda, FL) drove home three in the third set.
Setter Cassy Hanneman (Denver, CO) tallied 30 assists to help the Beacons offense. Combined UMass recorded eight service aces, and only allowed one ace from Johnson and Wales. Kayla Wilson (San Jose, CA) and Thompson each had 10 digs to pace the defense. Morrison led the team in blocks with two solo stops and one block assist.
Johnson and Wales saw Audrey Warren finish with a team-high four kills, while setter Natasha Finkbeiner posted four assists. Courtney Wright recorded eight digs in the loss.
Volleyball returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Rhode Island College for a 10 a.m. Little East Conference match.
