BEVERLY, Mass. – The 17th ranked Beacons (15-2) improved their win-streak to 15 consecutive matches, as they handed Endicott College (9-10) a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-15) non-conference loss Thursday evening at MacDonald Gymnasium.
UMass who is currently on the second-longest run in program history, put together a solid performance totaling 44 kills on 96 attempts, while only giving-up a mere 13 errors to finish the match with a .323 kill percentage. Shannon Thompson (Moorpark, CA), Corrine Porter (Huntington Beach, CA), and Molly Rattigan (Dorchester, MA) each finished in double-figures in kills with Thompson scoring a match-high 16. Porter finished second with 12, while Rattigan tallied 11. Rattigan also sported a match-high .562 attack percentage as she went 11-for-16 with just two errors.
Cassy Hanneman (Denver, CO) completed a total of 32 assists on 82 attempts (.463) to pace the Beacons offense. On top of her 16 kills, Thompson was also dominant from the end-line as she scored five service aces on her 18 total serves.
Libero Kayla Wilson (San Jose, CA) came-up with 15 receptions and 12 digs to lead the defense. Porter posted eight digs in the win, while Hanneman tallied six to finish third on the team.
Thursday’s match marked the fourth nationally ranked opponent that Endicott has faced this season. Falyn Torelli led her squad with eight kills. Sarah Allshouse totaled 20 assists and 10 digs to record the team’s only double-double of the night.
Volleyball returns to action tomorrow evening when they take on Rochester Institute of Technology at 6 p.m. in the Clark Athletic Center as part of the 2011 Beacons Invitational.
