Beacons Blow Past Spartans in Dominant Road Win

Castleton, Vt. (Apr. 22, 2025) – The UMass Boston Beacons men's lacrosse team put together a commanding performance on Tuesday night, rolling to a 21–8 victory over the Spartans of Vermont State University Castleton in Little East Conference (LEC) play.

How It Happened

Cole Allan (Falmouth, ME.) opened the scoring for the Beacons before Castleton quickly answered to tie it at one. From there, UMass Boston took control, igniting a six-goal run that set the tone for the rest of the game.

Seth Libby (Pomfret, CT.) kicked off the run with the first of his three goals on the night, assisted by Jack Baker (Bellingham, Mass.). Matt Hutchings (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) followed with his 43rd goal of the season, while Patrick Dwinnells (Ashland, Mass.), with help from Timothy Sullivan (Walpole, Mass.), added to the tally. Libby struck again before the quarter ended, sending the Beacons into the break with a 5–1 lead.

UMass Boston kept the pressure on in the second quarter. Sean Daly (Kingston, Mass.) netted his first of two goals, and Max Hamilton-Jones (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), assisted by Justin McCullough (Waltham, Mass.), notched his second goal of the season to stretch the Beacons' lead to 7–1. Castleton briefly cut into the deficit, but Patrick Carey (North Andover, Mass.) responded just 19 seconds later. Sullivan added a goal, and Libby completed his hat trick, giving the Beacons a commanding 10–2 advantage at halftime.

Braydon Goddard scored early in the third quarter for the Spartans, but the Beacons quickly responded with goals from Carson Meczywor (Adams, Mass.), Daly, and Ryan Steckman-Buck (North Massapequa, N.Y.). After Goddard tallied again for Castleton, Shane McGonagle (Haverhill, Mass.) answered right back. The Spartans closed the third with a goal, but UMass Boston maintained a firm 14–5 lead heading into the final frame.

Castleton opened the fourth with another goal, but the Beacons delivered a four-goal run to put the game out of reach. Nick Gualtieri (Billerica, Mass.) started the surge with his second goal of the season, followed by McGonagle's second of the night, assisted by Daly. Gualtieri quickly added another, this time set up by Meczywor, and Matthew Konareski (Guilford, CT. ) capped the run with 4:55 remaining.

Allan netted his second goal of the game and 16th of the season, before Adrian Fielosh (Orange, Conn.) and Duncan Youngclaus (Middleboro, Mass.) wrapped up the scoring for the Beacons in the 21–8 rout.
