Men's Hockey Moves Up To #8 In D3Hockey.Com Top-15 Poll

BOSTON, Mass.—#8/12 UMass Boston earned their highest-ever ranking in the D3Hockey.com Top-15 Poll, after the Beacons dominating win over in-state rival UMass Dartmouth.

The Beacons are ranked #8 in this week's D3Hockey.Com Top-15 Poll, one spot ahead of their previous high mark. Last season, UMass Boston reached the number nine spot on one occasion, and the Beacons were ranked ninth overall in last week's D3Hockey.com Preseason Poll.

As a program, the Beacons have never been ranked higher than seventh in the nation. UMass Boston was ranked number seven in the nation on January 27, 1991, in a poll that predates both USCHO.com and D3Hockey.com.

Peter Belisle's squad stayed at number 12 in the USCHO.com Poll, one spot short of their program-record they set last January.

UMass Boston opened their season with a huge 8-2 win over reigning MASCAC Champion UMass Dartmouth. Seven different players found the back of the net for the Beacons with junior Nathan Milam (Westland, Mich.) (2 G, 2 A), and sophomores Peter MacIntyre (Norfolk, Mass.) (1 G, 3 A) and Derek Colucci (North Scituate, R.I.) (1 G, 2 A) leading the way.

The Beacons return to action Friday and Saturday when they begin their ECAC East conference slate with a pair of home games. Friday night the Beacons host New England College (7 p.m.) in their home opener, before hosting St. Anselm College Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
