PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Three different players from lacrosse earned Little East Conference weekly honors as senior Calvin Lee (Hopkinton, Mass.) was named Offensive Player of the Week, freshman Brendan Lovely (Foxborough, Mass.) was named Rookie of the Week, and senior Craig Frehill (Norwell, Mass.) was named Goalie of the Week.
For Lee, he continues to put together one of the best starts in recent memory, as the Beacons sit with a 6-0 record. Last week, UMass grabbed three straight wins, as the senior attackman registered 11 goals and eight assists for 19 points. Lee, who is currently averaging over six points per game this year, started his week off with three goals and four assists in the win over Becker College. He then netted five goals, including the game-winner, while also tallying one assist in the overtime victory over Nichols College. In Saturday's win over Emerson he cruised past the Lions with three goals and three assists. He also finished the week with six ground balls and one caused turnover.
Lovely, anchored the Beacons defense with an impressive showing. The defenseman forced a total of seven turnovers, and actually had a man-down goal in the one-sided victory over Emerson College on Saturday. He also collected five ground balls. In the overtime win over Nichols College, he combined for a team-high four caused turnovers, in the Beacons huge come-from-behind win.
Between the pipes, Frehill was lights out for the Beacons. He started the week off with seven saves in the one-sided victory over Becker College. He then played the best game of the season in the overtime win over Nichols College. The senior from Norwell, registered a season-high 17 stops, which also sits as second most in a season for Frehill. He made a pair of key saves late in the fourth quarter to keep the Beacons in the contest, as they completed the come-from-behind victory.
