BOSTON, Mass.—UMass Boston lacrosse seniors Matt Murphy (Watertown, Mass) and Cameron Dixson (Wayland, Mass.) were each named to the New England Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Association (NEILA) All-Academic Team, the NEILA announced earlier this month.
To be recognized, players must be in their final year of eligibility with a cumulative GPA of a 3.0 or higher, while also being significant contributors on the field.
The senior captains helped UMass Boston's clinch a spot in the Little East Conference tournament for the fourth-straight season and advance to the LEC Semifinals for the second time in three seasons.
Murphy started all 19 games and anchored the Beacons' defense that held opponents to seven goals or fewer in two of their final four games. The senior defender finished second on the team with 20 ground balls and fourth with 41 ground balls. He also added one assist and won 11 face-offs.
Dixson put together a phenomenal season in his first year as a full-time starter. The senior goalie led the entire Little East Conference with his 257 saves and finished 36th in Division III with his 13.53 saves per game. He also posted a 51.5 save percentage and 13.49 goals against average in 18 starts.
