Men's Soccer Announces Incoming Recruiting Class

BOSTON, Mass. – With the start of the 2013 season just a few short weeks away, head men's soccer coach Jake Beverlin announced his incoming recruiting class.  The Beacons looking to begin a new chapter under Beverlin, who was named the head coach in February, will kick off their season on Friday, August 30 at the Lasell College Tournament.

"I am pleased to announce my first incoming class that will take the field for us this fall.  This is an incoming class of eighteen new players that consists of ten freshmen and eight transfers.  This group top to bottom is full of athleticism and technical class which is what we have been aiming for.  We have been able to capture some of the best local talent, and have been able to go out of region to further our depth and quality in a short time.  Our group of four returning players, and this group of 18 will surely portray the up tempo possession based style of play we as a staff and program are aiming for.  Each of these young men came to us from a winning culture that exudes competition on a daily basis and we are excited to move forward with these traits in our players and our program.  In the coming days we look forward to announcing a few more of our incoming players to add to this group," said Coach Beverlin.

Name: Miguel Alcantar
Hometown: San Diego, California
Height: 5'9"
Position: Forward

Key Facts: Played his club soccer with Albion SC out of San Diego, CA.  A four year vasity player for Point Loma High School.  While at Point Loma, Alcantar, scored a total of 42 goals and was voted the team's offensive MVP in his Junior season.  In addition, he was also selected to the All-League team his junior and senior seasons along with being on the All-Academic teams.  In his senior season he was awarded the team's hardest worker award.  Point Loma made the Southern California quarterfinals three of out of his four years.

Key Facts: A transfer from Bunker Hill Community College where he helped Bunker Hill to a 2010 Region 21 Championship, final top-10 national ranking, and advanced to the NJCAA National Quarterfinals.  Was also a 2010 NJCAA Region 21 First Team selection.  Was also a part of the 2011 NJCC Regional 21 Finalist team, MCCAC Tournament Champions, and was also selected to the NJCAA Region 21 first team.  He served as a two year captain at Bunker Hill.  Prior to Bunker Hill he played for Weston FC Academy.

Key Facts: A transfer from Bunker Hill Community College where he helped Bunker Hill to a 2010 Region 21 Championship, final Top-10 national ranking, and a advanced to the NJCAA National Quarterfinals.  Was also a 2010 NJCAA Region 21 First Team selection.  Was also a part of the 2011 NJCC Regional 21 Finalist team, MCCAC Tournament Champions, and was also selected to the NJCAA Region 21 first team for a second consecutive year.  Played for Brockton High School Varsity team for four years.


Name: Edmilson Barros

Key Facts: Played for Valeo FC helping them to the 2013 Masachusetts State Cup Championship and was their starting center back.  He played four years of varsity soccer at Madison Park High School.  While at Madison Park, he scored a total of 91 goals in his four years of varsity soccer.  In his junior and senior seasons he led Madison Park and the Boston City league in scoring. In his junior year he scored 27 goals while in his senior season he scored 35 goals.  Also helped Madison Park to the 2011 and 2012 Boston City League Title.

Key Facts: Played club soccer for Valeo FC, the 2013 U-18 Massachusetts State Cup Champions, and played at the Region 1 regional championship.  Was named the Massachusetts 2013 U-18 State Cup MVP and was captain of his Valeo FC club.  Played varsity for Framingham High School.

Hometown: Newmarket, Virginia

Key Facts:  Victor Cabral, is transferring to UMass Boston after playing one season at Andrews University where he was their starting goalkeeper.  Prior to Andrews University, he played four seasons of varsity soccer for Shenandoah Academy in Newmarket, Virginia.

Hometown: Brookline, Mass.

Key Facts:  Pedro De Carvaljo played for Brookline High School varsity boys soccer for three seasons after moving to Brookline from Cape Verde.  In addition to Brookline High School Carvaljo, played for the MPS Club in the spring of 2013.


Name: Paul Erne
Hometown: San Diego, California
Height: 5'9"
Position: Midfielder
High School: La Jolla High School
Club: Albion SC

Key Facts:  A four year starter on Point Loma High School.  Paul Erne, helped La Jolla reach the Southern California State semi-finals in 2012 and was named the team's captain in his senior season.  Played in Switzerland in 2011 for Seefeld FC and was a pat of the youth team that won the Switzerland Youth Championship in 2011.  Upon arriving back in California in 2011 he helped his club team, Albion SC, to a league championship.

Key Facts:  Anderson Espana, is a center midfield transfer from Division 1 Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island.  Prior to Bryant University, Anderson was a standout four year varsity player for Chelsea High School.

Key Facts:  Camillo Florez, is an incoming freshman from Northeast Metro Technical High School in Boston.  He played four seasons of varsity for Northeast Metro Technical High School.


Name: Arlindo Goncalves
Hometown: Brockton, Mass.
Height: 5'10"
Position: Midfielder
High School: Brockton High School
Club : MPS

Key Facts: Arlindo Goncalves, a center midfielder from Brockton, was a varsity starter for the Bulldogs for three years in addition to playing for his club side MPS. He helped MPS to a US Club Soccer Championship in 2009.

Previous College: Massasoit C.C.

Key Facts:  Dylan Hawkins, played for the New England Revolution Academy from 2008-2011.  While with the Revolution, Hawkins, was selected to the US Soccer Developmental Academy Regional Market Training Center in 2009.  In 2009 and 2010 he helped the Revolution to the Academy Nationals in North Carolina.  In addition to the Revolution Hawkins was selected to the Mass ODP for 2007 and 2008 and was invited to the Regional tryout.  At Oliver Ames High School he was a Hockmock All-Star in 2009 and a Enterprise All-Scholastic team selection in 2009.  He played last season with Massasoit C.C. in Brockton.

Key Facts: Was a three year varsity payer for Northeast Metro Tech and helped the team to a 2010 CAC Conference Championship.  In 2011, Jadison, was awarded All-Conference and played his club soccer with the MC Falcons.


Name: Marcus Pizzetti
Hometown: Malden, Mass.
Height: 6'0"
Position: Forward
High School: Malden High School
Previous School: Bunker Hill C.C.

Key facts: A transfer from Bunker Hill Community College, Marcus Pizzetti helped Bunker Hill to a National Final Four and a No. 2 national ranking.  Along the way he helped Bunker Hill capture the Region 21 Championship, and the MCCAC Championship.  Individually Pizzetti ended the season as the team's second leading goal scorer.  For his on field performances Marcus was awarded Region 21 Second Team All Region by the NSCAA and NJCAA.


Name: Matheus Reis
Hometown: Somerville, Mass.
Height: 5'10"
Position: Midfielder
High School: Somerville High School

Played four years of varsity soccer at Somerville High School where he won three Greater Boston League titles,  D1 North Sectional title, and in 2011 won the MIAA Sportsmanship award. Matheus Reis was a Greater Boston League First Team All-Star in 2011 and 2012 and was a D1 Eastern Mass. All-Star as a junior. Reis also served as team captain during his junior and senior seasons at Somerville High School.

Key Facts:  Alfonso Rosalas-Valenzuela, is transferring to UMass Boston after one very successful season in net for Bunker Hill Community College.  While at Bunker Hill he helped them to a No. 2 NSCAA National Ranking, Region 21 Championship, MCCAC Championship, and the NJCAA National Final Four. Prior to Bunker Hill, he played four seasons of varsity soccer for Revere High School and also played for the New England Aztecs club team.


Name: Lucas Silva
Hometown: Malden, Mass.
Height: 5'10"
Position: Left Back
High School: Malden
Club: MC Falcons

Key Facts: As a high school freshman (2009-2010), Lucas Silva started as a left back for Revere High School varsity. Transferred to Malden High School in his sophomore year (2010-2011), and started as a center back. As a junior, he was named co-captain and a Greater Boston League All-star. As a senior he was once again named co-captain and Greater Boston League All-Star.  He was also named Malden High School's Athlete of the Year, and was a Eastern Massachusetts All-Star. Accumulated total of 14 goals in his high school career.
