PAWTUCKET, R.I.—UMass Boston men's tennis senior Austin DeLasse (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and freshman Miguel Beltran (Ashland, Mass.) earned Little East Conference Player and Rookie of the Week honors, after the Beacons wrapped up their second-straight LEC Regular Season Title.
The duo helped UMass Boston go 2-0 on the week, including a huge 8-1 win over previously undefeated Salem State University.
DeLasse earns his second LEC Player of the Week award of the season and third of his career. The Beacons' senior captain went 3-0 on the week, including picking up two wins at number one singles.
He teamed up with Josh Bhasin (Tulsa, Okla.) for an 8-4 win at second doubles against Salem State and added a 6-0, 7-5 win at first singles against the Vikings. On Senior Day, DeLasse swept Southern Maine's Matt Henderson 6-0, 6-0 at number one singles.
DeLasse is 4-0 in LEC singles matches and 6-1 overall in conference play. He owns an 11-14 overall record this season.
Beltran collected his first collegiate weekly award after going 3-0 in a pair of conference matches. He opened the week by working with Onkgopotse Mokoka (Pretoria, South Africa) to record an 8-5 win at number one doubles against Salem State.
He tacked on a 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 win at number two singles on Tuesday and then blanked Southern Maine's Chase Orava 6-0, 6-0 at number two singles. Beltran is 7-1 overall in conference play and has recorded 11 wins in 19 total matches this season.
UMass Boston will close out the regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m., when they travel to take on Western Connecticut State University. With a win, the Beacons will finish the LEC Regular Season with a perfect 6-0 record for the third time in program history.
