PAWTUCKET, R.I.—After putting together a 5-0 week to close out the regular season, UMass Boston men's tennis freshman Nandish Shah (Ahmedabad, India) earned his third Little East Conference Player and Rookie of the Week awards.
The Beacons freshman went 3-0 at number one doubles and 2-0 at number one singles, to help UMass Boston finish the regular season a perfect 7-0 in LEC play. With the Beacons two conference wins, UMass Boston wrapped up their third-straight LEC Regular Season Title.
He opened the week by teaming up with Miguel Beltran (Ashland, Mass.) for an 8-3 win at number one doubles against Bridgewater State University.
On Thursday, Shah went a perfect 2-0 in a tight 5-4 loss to Clark University. Shah and Beltran blanked their number one doubles opponents, while Shah tacked on a 6-4, 3-0 win at number one singles.
In a crucial conference match on Saturday, Shah dropped just two games across doubles and singles, to help the Beacons wrap up the number one seed.
Shah finished a team-best 12-0 in conference matches, including a 7-0 mark in doubles play.
Top-seeded UMass Boston will host the winner of #4 UMass Dartmouth and #5 Western Connecticut State University on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Little East Conference Semifinals. All the LEC Tournament semifinals and finals matches will be hosted by UMass Boston at the Weymouth Tennis Club.
