Track & Field Record Top Finishes at New England Regional Meet

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the first time in the history of the UMass Boston men's track and field program the Beacons sprinted and jumped their way to a top-10 finish as they placed eighth at the Division III New England Regional meet held by MIT Saturday afternoon.

Combined the men's team all finished within the top-15 of their respective events.  Highlight the afternoon's events was the trio of Carl Joseph (Brockton, Mass.), Ervin Lofton (Ann Arbor, Mich.), and Tylor Hart (Newton, Mass.) in the high jump.  Each Beacon finished in first, second, and third place to help the Beacons earn some crucial points in the standings.  Joseph led the group with his first place height of 6-09.00, followed by Lofton in second with a height of 6-06.00, and Hart in third with his matching height of 6-06.00.

Kebba Nasso (Attleboro, Mass.) sprinted his way to a new program record and a third place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.06 seconds.  He also earned a seventh place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.27 seconds, after posting a qualifying time of 11.37 seconds.

Henry Morales (Chelsea, Mass.) took 9th place in the 200 with a time of 22.55 seconds and also finished in 10th place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.38 seconds.  In the 4x100 meter relay Brandon Couloute (Shelton, Mass.), Morales, Lofton, and Nasso sprinted their way to an eighth place finish with a combined time of 43.85 seconds.  Couloute, Nasso, Morales, and Jake Kerin (Quincy, Mass.) would later finish in 7th place in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:21.37.

Hamza Abdul (Chelsea, Mass.) closed out Saturday's regional meet for the men's team with a leap of 42-09.50 feet in the triple jump which earned him 14th place overall.

Competing for the women's team in the 100 meter prelims was Samara Faustin (Boston, Mass.) who posted a time of 12.72 seconds in the qualifying round.  She later earned a 16th place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.26 seconds.  Ari Leao (New Bedford, Mass.) took 18th place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.49. 

The group of Fatima Konteh (Lewis Center, Ohio), Jacqueline Conway (East Longmeadow, Mass.), Alessandra Fiallos (Derby, Conn.), and Leao sprinted their way to a 20th place finish in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 52.66 seconds.

The Beacons return to action in two weeks when they compete at the ECAC Division III New England Championship Meet, which will be held at RPI in Troy, New York.
