Men’s Track and Field Has Strong Day at Wesleyan Invite

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – A total 11 top-10 finishes highlighted another strong showing by the men's track and field team as they competed at the Wesleyan University Invitational Saturday afternoon.

William Barrett (Everett, Mass.) led the way for the Beacons with a second-place finish in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:42.22.  Prosper Lubega (Watertown, Mass.) also had a strong showing as he took third in the 800-meter run, as he tripped the sensor with a time of 2:04.76.

Lubega also took fifth in the high jump with a final mark of 5-08.75 feet.  Also earning a top-5 finish was Xavier Hill (Hyde Park, Mass.) with a jump of 20-03.75 feet in the long jump, while Julian Collins (Asheville, N.C.) earned fifth in the weight throw with a final toss of 48-04.50 feet. 

Cameron Chase (Lutz, Fla.) finished in eighth place in the 800-meter run, while in the 400-meter dash Christian Hodgson (Leeds, Mass.) led a group of sprinters with a time of 53.40 seconds to earn a ninth-place finish.  Jacey Kretas (Townsend, Mass.) recorded a final time of 53.89 seconds in the 400 to take 11th place, while Adam Elyounssi finished right behind his teammate with a time of 53.90 seconds.

Jonathan Hodge (Waltham, Mass.) had another strong showing in the 600-meter run as he crossed the finish line with a time of 1:32.72.  Sha Anwar (Wakefield, Mass.) was the lone Beacon to compete in the mile run.  The sophomore finished with a time of 5:39.99.

Jimmy Cannon (Quincy, Mass.) and Jack Davis (Southwick, Mass.) finished in 14th and 16th place respectively in the 3,000-meter run with times of 9:48.90 and 10:34.99. 

In the 60-meter hurdles Hill recorded a time of 9.20 seconds in the finals to earn a seventh-place finish.  Kretas matched his teammate with a time of 9.20 seconds as well to earn eighth overall.

Logan Mitchell (Franklin, Mass.) earned a 12th place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.40 seconds.  In the prelims of the 60-meter dash, Khorey James led the way with a time of 7.46 seconds, followed by Mitchell who finished with a time of 7.52 seconds.


The Beacons will compete at the Gordon Kelly Invitational on Saturday in Cambridge.
