Matt Hillenbrand is beginning his first season as the assistant distance coach at UMass Boston.
Hillenbrand currently competes in middle distance events for the Boston Athletic Association High Performance team in Boston, MA. Formerly of the Brooks Beasts Track Club in Seattle, WA, Hillenbrand joins the staff with a wealth of knowledge of the sport having qualifying for the U.S. National Outdoor Championships placing 12th in 2014.
As a three-time USTFCCCA All-American while competing at the University of Kentucky Hillenbrand was a three-time Southeastern Conference champion in the mile and 3,000-meter run. He earned NCAA Southeast Regional Athlete of the Year honors, and was a gold medalist at the NACAC Championships while representing Team USA. Garnering four school records, Hillenbrand still holds the record for the fastest time (3:57.00) in the mile run by a Kentucky native. His other personal bests include 1:48.07 in the 800-meter run, 3:39.84 in the 1,500-meter run, 7:59.55 in the 3,000-meter run, and 13:49.24 in the 5,000-meter run.
Hillenbrand graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2014 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology and a Spanish minor.
