PAWTUCKET, R.I.—After earning Most Valuable Player honors at the Pepsi Mariner Classic, senior forward Olivia Murphy (Canton, Mass.) was named the Little East Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Murphy averaged 18.5 points and 19.5 rebounds, while knocking down 50.0 percent of her shots, to earn her fourth Most Valuable Player honors in five collegiate in-season tournaments. The Player of the Week award marks the sixth of Murphy's career.
In two games at Maine Maritime, Murphy recorded a pair of double-doubles and added 19 offensive rebounds, eight blocks and four assists to lead the Beacons to the Pepsi Mariner Classic Title.
Murphy opened the weekend with 19 points, 23 rebounds and four blocks in a tight 68-65 win over Endicott College in the semifinal round. On Sunday, she finished with 18 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks, to help the Beacons earn a 55-37 win over host Maine Maritime in the Championship Game.
With her big weekend, Murphy moved into the top-five in program history for points (1,155) and top-three for rebounds (831.).
UMass Boston will return to action on Saturday, when the Beacons host Framingham State University at 1 p.m. in their home opener.
