BOSTON, Mass.—For the second-straight week and third time in program history, UMass Boston women's basketball cracked the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Rankings, the NCAA announced on Wednesday afternoon.
The Beacons slid down one spot to 12thout of 12 ranked teams in the Northeast. They are one of three ranked Little East Conference squads, joining seventh-ranked UMass Dartmouth, and Eastern Connecticut State University-who jumped into the rankings this week in 11th-place.
UMass Boston is now 1-3 against ranked teams in the Northeast and 1-4 overall against ranked sides. With Emmanuel College falling out of the rankings, UMass Boston's lone win came against #7 UMass Dartmouth in early January. The Corsairs returned the favor by outlasting the Beacons 60-59 on Wednesday night in Boston. UMass Boston is also 0-2 this season against Eastern Connecticut State University-with both games being decided in the final five minutes.
The Beacons will close out the regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m., when they travel to Rhode Island College. With a win, UMass Boston will lock up the third seed in the upcoming LEC Tournament and will host sixth-seeded Castleton University on Tuesday night.
