WATERVILLE, Maine – A goal in each period carried the Mules of Colby College to a 3-1 win over women's hockey Tuesday evening in a non-conference match-up.
UMass Boston 1, Colby College 3
UMass Boston (6-9-2)
Colby College (8-3-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Casey Adimey (Buffalo, N.Y.) had the lone goal for the Beacons in the rare early weekday affair. Colby College struck first in the match-up as Tess Dupre netted the first goal of the day around the midway point of the opening period.
A goal by Lauren Klein added the Mules lead less than two minutes into the second period. Adimey cut the deficit in half on an unassisted goal at the 9:23 mark. UMass Boston tried to score the game-tying tally as they outshot Colby 19-9.
The Mules would survive the offensive onslaught by the Beacons with Cierra San Roman making 18 stops in the second period. The third frame was just like the second as UMB outshot 11-9, but were once again denied, this time by Nina Prunster.
Colby would seal the win in the final minutes of the third period with an empty-netter by Colleen Donoghue.
In total there was only three penalties whistled between the two programs respectively.
Alyssa DePippo (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was handed the loss, and finished with 23 saves.
The two netminders for Colby combined for 33 saves respectively.
