NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – On Monday, the Little East Conference announced that senior volleyball player Shannon Thompson (Moorpark, Calif.) has been named Offensive Player of the Week, while women's soccer players Sam Cristoforo (Rockland, Mass.) and Alli Modzelewski (Newtown, Conn.) have been named Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week respectively.
For Thompson, her third straight conference weekly honor was the result of recording a .600 attack percentage and 32 kills on 50 attempts. In the 2-0 week Thompson was charged with just two errors. In the 3-0 win over Colby-Sawyer College, Thompson was perfect scoring 16 kills on 27 attempts. Against the Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State University, Thompson once again drove home 16 kills to lead the Beacons to their first conference win of the year. The senior also managed seven digs and a total of eight block assists.
On the field, Cristoforo had perhaps one of the best weeks of her college career as she recorded three goals and two assists for eight points. The junior midfielder netted one goal in the Beacons 3-0 week, including two game-winners. She scored the decisive tally in the come-from-behind win over Bridgewater State University on Thursday, while in Saturday's dismantling of Keene State College, Cristoforo scored the first goal of the afternoon late in the first half to give the Beacons their first win over the Owls.
Modzelewski anchored the Beacons defense, which allowed just three goals all week. The Connecticut native helped UMass Boston to their first conference win over Keene State in the program's history. On Thursday, she sparked the come-from-behind win over Bridgewater State, when she scored the first of three Beacons goals in the second half.
