NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.—Following a 2-0 week and three-game winning streak, UMass Boston junior Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, Mass.) and redshirt sophomore Kristen Spain (Quincy, Mass.) were named the Little East Conference Offensive Player and Goaltender of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Ledin, the Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2012, registered eight points in two games to earn the Offensive Player of the Week award for the fourth time in her career.
The junior forward recorded two goals, including the game-winning marker, in a 4-1 victory over Suffolk University Wednesday, before adding a goal and an assist Saturday against UMass Dartmouth. With the win over the Corsairs, UMass Boston moved to 2-0 in the Little East Conference and stayed tied for first place.
Ledin leads the Little East Conference in goals (nine) and points (21) for the third consecutive season and ranks amongst the top 50 women's soccer players in the nation at the DIII level in goals, points, goals per game and points per game.
Spain earned the nod as the top keeper in the conference for the second time in two years, after setting the UMass Boston program record for career shutouts Saturday afternoon.
The Beacons starting goalie posted three saves on three shots in Saturday's win to pick up her program-record setting 11th shutout in her 27th career start.
On the year, Spain has posted a 4-3 record with an .837 save percentage and 1.17 goals against average and ranks in the top five of the Little East Conference in every major category.
