PAWTUCKET, R.I.--Sophomore first baseman Lauren Mitsiaris (Taunton, Mass.) became the first Beacon to earn Little East Conference Softball Player of the Week in nearly two years, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Mitsiaris is the first Beacon to earn LEC Weekly honors since Beacon great Sue Killilea ('13) took home Player of the Week honors on March 18, 2013.
The sophomore went 5-for-7 with three runs and four RBI in Sunday's season-opening doubleheader to help the Beacons earn a split. She added a pair of extra-base hits, a steal and nine putouts in the two contests as well.
In the Beacons' opener against The College of New Jersey, Mitsiaris recorded a team-high two hits and belted her first collegiate home run in a 7-4 loss to the Lions. Her two-run homer cut the deficit to 7-4 in the fourth inning, but the Beacons comeback efforts fell short.
She was just as good in the Beacons' five-inning 13-2 win over Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham. Mitsiaris finished 3-for-4 with two runs and two more RBI to help UMass Boston knock off the Freedom Conference preseason favorites.
