DAYTON, Ohio—Former UMass Boston assistant coach and four-year starting pitcher Kara Willis ('12) has taken the next step in her coaching journey, as she has been hired as the University of Dayton pitching coach.
After spending a year each at UMass Boston and Division I University of Rhode Island and the University of Hartford, Willis began working with the defending Atlantic-10 Champion Flyers in late August.
"I am honored and enthusiastic about my opportunity to join the Flyer family," Willis said. "Coach Laplaca and Coach Prager have led an excellent program, and I am excited to contribute to the program's continued success, as well as to lead an already successful pitching staff." She also added, "I want to extend my gratitude to the coaching staff and athletic administration for this opportunity."
In addition to working with collegiate pitching staffs, Willis has also spent time working with the Planet Fastpitch pitcher development program and the Extra Innings softball club.
While at UMass Boston, Willis set nearly every program career record and she still ranks in the top two in program history in career appearances (71), complete games (52), innings pitched (393.0), wins (25) and strikeouts (223).
