PAWTUCKET, R.I.—For the first time in her collegiate career, UMass Boston softball freshman Kelly Danahy (Kingston, Mass.) was named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Danahy recorded at least two hits and one run in all four games, to help UMass Boston post a 3-1 record on the week.
The freshman second baseman/outfielder hit .615 (8-13) on the week with seven runs scored, two doubles, one RBI and one stolen base.
On Thursday against Framingham State University, Danahy finished 4-7 with four runs scored and a double-in a sweep of the reigning Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Champions.
She added four hits in six at-bats, three runs scored, a double and an RBI in the Beacons' LEC opener on Saturday against Plymouth State University. In game two, she scored the game-winning run and tacked on a key insurance run in the Beacons' 8-6 win over the Panthers.
The Beacons will play eight games this week, starting on Tuesday night at Emmanuel College (6/7:30 p.m.).
