Vento Earns First Career LEC Player of the Week Honors

PAWTUCKET, R.I.—For the first time in her career, UMass Boston softball junior Roxanne Vento (Arlington, Mass.) was named the Little East Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.  

The reigning LEC Player of the Week came up huge for the Beacons, to help UMass Boston secure a spot in this week's LEC Tournament. 

Vento hit .545 (6-11) with five runs scored, seven RBI and two home runs in a 2-2-conference week. She also set the program record for career runs batted in (92) and moved into second place in career home runs (12).  

With the Beacons' backs against the wall in game two against Keene State College Tuesday, Vento hit a go-ahead, grand slam in the top of the sixth inning of an 8-6 win. She finished 2-3 with two runs, four RBI and a walk in the huge conference win.  

On Saturday, Vento set the program record for career RBI in game one, before going 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI in the Beacons' playoff-clinching game two win. 

Vento ends the regular season as the conference leader in walks (23) and sits in the top five in the conference in on-base percentage (.484-2nd), slugging percentage (.604-2nd) and home runs (five-t-2nd).

Sixth-seeded UMass Boston will open LEC Tournament play Thursday, when they travel to take on #1 and host Plymouth State University at 10 a.m. The LEC Tournament will be played with a double-elimination format.
