NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – After her breakout junior season, Hieu Nguyen (Dorchester, Mass.) earned for the first time in her career, First Team All-Conference Honors at fifth singles as announced by the Little East Conference office.
With the honor, Nguyen becomes the first singles player in program history to earn first team honors at fifth flight. She is also the first singles player since 2002 to be named a first team all-conference selection.
Nguyen, who helped the Beacons to their first Little East Conference tournament appearance since 2008, closed out her junior season with an overall record of 12-2, 7-1 in the Little East. After dropping her first match of the year, Nguyen put together one of the most impressive win-streaks in recent memory, as she rifled off 11 straight victories, three of which were decided in tie-breakers.
Amongst some of her key victories was the 6-2, 6-2 decision against Western Connecticut State University, which helped the Beacons earn their first conference win over the Colonials in over a decade. Nguyen ended the season with a sound 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) decision at Plymouth State University.
In doubles play, Nguyen was just as dominant earning as recorded seven wins (7-8). Just like her singles, play, Nguyen mounted an impressive win-streak in doubles play as well, earning four straight wins in the middle of the season.
