NEW YORK, N.Y. – On the first day of the 2013 ECAC Indoor Championship senior Samara Faustin (Boston, Mass.) set a new program mark in the 60 meter dash as the Boston native posted a final time of 7.99 seconds Friday evening at the New Balance Armory.
Her new record setting time, broke her original record setting time from December 10, 2011 by 16 hundredths of a second to earn a 15th place finish. Right behind her was Anisha Trappier (Taunton, Mass.) who recorded a new personal best time in the event. Trappier recorded a final time of 8.05 seconds to earn 22nd place overall.
In the 4x200 meter relay, Faustin, Trappier, Hulerie McGuffie (Lynn, Mass.), and Renee O'Brien (Stoneham, Mass.) finished just .29 hundredths of a second behind the all-time program mark set back on February 24, 1985. The four sprinters posted a final time of 1:42.34 to earn 2nd place overall.
With the top performances by the Beacons runners, UMass Boston currently sits 15th going into day two of the regional meet.
On the men's side Hamza Abdul (Chelsea, Mass.) competed in the triple jump.
The Beacons return to action tomorrow at the Armory.
