NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – In their first-ever trip to the Smith College campus, members of track and field teams recorded multiple top-10 finishes Saturday afternoon at the 2017 Pioneer Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Jacob Hirtle (Hingham, Mass.) highlighted Saturday's performances with a program toss of 150-03 feet in the hammer throw. His final mark broke his program record of 145-10, which he set on March 25.
Against some of the top Division III sprinters in New England, the Beacons saw juniors Dom Nda (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Taylor Driggers (Lisbon, Conn.) both record second place finishes in the 200-meter dash. For Nda, he collected a time of 22.66 seconds, while Driggers tripped the sensor with a time of 26.55. Lexy Bean (Danvers, Mass.) earned a third-place finish in the 200 with her time of 26.88 seconds.
Freshman Wadeline Jonathas (Gonaives, Haiti) moved into the top-5 in the country in the 400-meter dash with her time of 56.57 seconds which was the fastest time by more than six seconds at Saturday's meet. Olivia Burnes (Paxton, Mass.) notched a third-place finish with a time of 1:03.38.
Adrianna Fredo (Brockton, Mass.) collected a top-10 time in the 1,500-meter run, as she crossed the finish line with a time of 5:27.50.
The women's relay teams also stood out at the Pioneer Invitational with the 4x100 meter relay posting a first-place time of 49.60 seconds, while the 4x400 meter relay finished with a first-place time of 4:07.72.
For the men's team distance runners Terry Williams (Saint Mary's, Ga.) and Jeffrey Noyes (Weymouth, Mass.) both earned second finishes respectively. Williams crossed the finish line in the 1,500 with a time of 4:25.21, while Noyes posted a time of 16:30.51 in the long 5,000-meter run.
Adrian Higgins (Milton, Mass.) collected a second-place finish of his own in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.72 seconds. The men's 4x100-meter relay recorded a time of 43.75 seconds to finish in second place.
Sarah Morenz (Dunstable, Mass.) recorded a second-place finish in the hammer throw (125-05 feet). Jacob Hirtle (Hingham, Mass.) also collected a second-place finish in the shot put with a final throw of 43-09.00 feet. In the men's discus Jason Bigler (Tyngsborough, Mass.) finished with a throw of 136-03 to earn second place, with Hirtle finishing right behind him in third with a toss of 122-04 feet. Ricardo Maldonado (Revere, Mass.) earned a fourth-place finish in the javelin with his final throw of 155-06 feet.
The Beacons will compete at the Tufts University Sunshine Classic on Saturday.
