Women’s Track and Field Finishes In Seventh at LEC Championship

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The women's track and field team looked to get their 2019 postseason off to a great start as they competed at the Little East Conference/New England Alliance Championship meet Saturday afternoon at Fitchburg State University.

HOW IT HAPPENED

All-American Olivia Burnes led the Beacons with her third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles.  A member of the 2018 national championship relay team, Burnes recorded a time of 1:09.41.  The 4x1 relay team also brought home a third-place finish as they combined for a time of 51.89 seconds.  She also earned a 13th place finish in the high jump with a leap of 4-07.00 feet. 

Gesheca Boswell finished the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.59 to finish in sixth place in the prelims.  Katie Olson also took sixth-place in the 100-meter hurdles with her finals time of 17.59 seconds.  She qualified for the finals with a time of 16.98 seconds.

Paulina Vo registered a final jump of 33-03.25 feet in the triple jump to earn a sixth place finish as she was the only Beacon to compete in the event.

Also competing in the 100-meter hurdles was Alanna Olton as she recorded a time of 17.52 seconds in the prelims.  Krystal Alvarez finished in 10th place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.40 seconds.  The 4x4 recorded a time of 4:47.93 which earned them a seventh-place finish at Saturday's championship meet.

Annie Appolon and Ruth Labranche finished in eighth and 11th place respectively in the long jump with their final distances of 16-01.50 and 14-07.75 feet respectively.

In the shot put Arriannah Gervais recorded an 11th place finish with a throw of 31-06.75 feet.  Sophie Olton recorded a throw of 24-11.25 feet to earn 13th place in her first outdoor championship meet. 

WHAT'S NEXT

The Beacons will compete at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship next Friday and Saturday.  This year's championship will be hosted by Williams College.
