BOSTON, Mass. – Behind a program record 28 aces, volleyball earned their first Little East Conference win of 2019 as they defeated Castleton University by the final of 3-0 Friday evening at Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore setter Jill Francis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the Beacons serving barrage as she recorded a career-best seven aces, which was the most aces in a three-set match since Randle Stock in 2007.
Behind her was the duo of Aleks Qose (Athens, Greece) and Carsen Komminsk (Worthington, Ohio) who each dropped in four aces. Komminsk also had 10 assists in the contest. Taryn Broughal (Branford, Conn.) finished with a match-high four kills, and had a one block solo and two block assists.
The Beacons took over quickly in Friday's match as they cruised to a 25-6 win in the first set. They then notched a 25-12 win in the second, before sealing the win in the third with a 25-7 victory.
Sidnee Berch (Boca Raton, Fla.) led UMB's defensive effort with her six digs.
For the Spartans Ellie Frischmon led her team with three kills, while Meghan Zawatsky finished with seven digs.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Beacons finished the win hitting .315 as they featured every player on their roster
- UMB's 28 aces broke the program mark set in 2011 when they scored 25 aces at the University of Southern Maine
- Bianca Coghi-DeSousa finished hitting a perfect 1.000 as she went 3-for-3 on kill attempts
- All-time the Beacons are now 2-0 against Castleton with Friday's match marking the first trip for the Spartans to Clark Gymnasium.
The Beacons will travel to Rivier University tomorrow to take on the host Raiders and St. Lawrence University in a tri-match. The Beacons will face St. Lawrence at 3 pm, followed by a 5 pm match with Rivier.
