Cross Country Has Solid Showing at Conn. College Invite

WATERFORD, Conn. – The UMass Boston men's and women's cross country teams returned the trails Saturday afternoon at Harkness Memorial Park as part of the2012 Connecticut College Invitational.  The men's squad recorded a 20th place finish, while the women's team had one representative competing for UMB.

The lone women's competitor was Nicole Sidiropoulos (Carver, Mass.).  The senior runner posted a final time of 25:27 to finish in 146th place on the 5K course.

For the men's squad senior Jake Kerin (Quincy, Mass.) led UMB with a time of 27:51 to finish in 105th place overall.  Behind him was Tad Delaney (Halifax, Mass.) in 118 place this his final mark of 28:41.  Joe Miller (Hull, Mass.) posted the third fasted time for the Beacons as he crossed the finish line with a time of 31:03.

Jared Layman (Woburn, Mass.) also had a strong showing on Saturday with his 136 place finish and time of 31:11.  Finishing just four seconds behind his teammate was Tyler Colbert (Groveland, Mass.) to earn 137th place.  Matt Nardiello (Swampscott, Mass.) closed out the Conn. College Invite for the Beacons with his time of 33:16.

Cross Country returns to action on October 27 when they compete in the Little East Conference/New England Alliance Championship meet at Westfield State University.
